Peter McDonald and Judy Malzard European Bike Trek Update - Hello from Athens!

Arrived in Athens Monday after a very long and sleepless flight, for me at least.  Peter enshrouded himself in his blanket and promptly snored his way through many hours of the flight. So, for much of the flight I was surrounded by the sonorous tones of fellow travellers, plus the guy next to me, who was also sleeping soundly, had his elbow stuck in my ear.  Not an experience I wish to repeat in a hurry.  Thank goodness I have six months to recover.

We have done all the touristy things, including, of course, the Acropolis which is truly amazing.

We tossed up whether we would have our bikes sent by train from Rotterdam, but were informed that it would take about 2 weeks for them to reach Athens.  Soooo, the ever resourceful Pete announced Wednesday he was off in search of new ones and about 2 hours later returned with the news that he had found some he thought would be suitable.  Off we went and after much bargaining, which, of course, is mandatory in Greece, we were the owners of bikes which we hope will serve us well in our travels around Europe.

Tomorrow we set off for the Peloponnese and from all I have read I fear it will be a very challenging way to start our cycling.  Oh well, it won't be the first time I've had to get off and push.

We are rather looking forward to escaping the city and enjoying some good clean fresh air.

After exploring the Peloponnese we will probably do some island hopping and then make our way to Turkey.  Who knows, certainly not us!!!

Will keep in touch
