Sunshine Hospice volunteers have proven to be an enthusiastic and dedicated group of people.
They give much in terms of their time, energy and talents and they are rewarded by knowing that they are helping to build and operate a hospice on the Sunshine Coast, whether directly or indirectly.
In a hospice setting, they help lighten the burden of a family caring for a loved one and often provide staff with a vital extra pair of hands. For some folk there is no close family and volunteers can then be a silent presence, perhaps just holding a hand, providing reassurance that no one needs to die alone.
However, compassionate hospice care can only be delivered with adequate funding. Our five Op Shops provide a significant contribution to the costs of building and operating a hospice.
Volunteers also support each other in a caring work environment, gaining social interaction, developing friendships and having fun.
Their roles at the present time include:
• Operating our five Op Shops located at Maroochydore, Tewantin, Cooroy, Montville and Bli Bli
• Fundraising activities • Administration support • Maintenance and multiple odd jobs
